Exosphere showed plenty of talent as a juvenile, but he has stamped himself as the best three-year-old in the country with three outstanding performances during the 2015 Spring Racing Carnival.

The Lonhro colt started his campaign with a fast-finishing win in the Group 2 Run To The Rose (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens on August 29 and he prove far too good for his rivals in both the Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) at the same venue on September 12 and the Group 2 Roman Consul Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick on October 3.

Exosphere has not had a race start for almost a month, but O’Shea told Racing Ahead that he is thrilled with the three-year-olds physical condition as well as the way he has settled into his new environment in Melbourne ahead of the 2015 Coolmore Stud Stakes.

“I think he has done really well since he has been in Melbourne and hopefully that reflects on the racecourse tomorrow,” O’Shea said.

“He has a very nonchalant approach and he has continued on that way this week.

“He is ticking over nicely, he is very happy and content, which is a good sign.”

Some drama was added to the 2015 Coolmore Stud Stakes when Exosphere was allocated barrier two earlier this week and O’Shea revealed that he was far from happy when he saw the inside gate.

O’Shea said that he will not give James McDonald any firm instructions in the lead-up to the Coolmore Stud Stakes and he believes that the leading hoop will have the three-year-old in the right position to win the Group 1 event.

“I don’t think that it will work to his advantage and it is a big issue,” O’Shea said.

“I was very perplexed when we drew that gate.

“Even if they do roll to the rail, which everbody thinks that they will, they will present another issue if he finds himself three or four pairs back on the inside.

“In regards to how we offset that, they will be up to James.

“We won’t complicate the issue too much by giving it too much consideration.

“He will be abreast of what has to happen and get the horse to where he will be best in the run.

“We saw in the Golden Rose that he can take a position and the other day at Randwick when he really hummed along and drew an inside gate we were just mindful to get him away from the gate, so you can go back on him.

“There is no set plan with him and it is where he is comfortable and where he is happy.”

Exosphere is currently available at 2015 Coolmore Stud Stakes odds of $1.45 with Ladbrokes and he is a dominant favourite from Keen Array ($11), Mogador ($11), Counterattack ($16) and Hellbent ($18).
