Epic Dragon has failed to perform during his current campaign

The pressure will be on Epic Dragon tomorrow when he runs at Moonee Valley tomorrow in a bid to save his campaign.

Epic Dragon will run in the Don Abell Cup where he will be ridden by jockey Dwayne Dunn against older horses.

The John Sadler-trained three-year-old has failed to perform during his current campaign when beating none home in his last start at Flemington.

Sadler was unsure as to why the gelding didn’t demonstrate his full ability in his last run.

“He was very disappointing last time and to be honest I don’t know why,” Sadler said.

“He ran very well first-up so we are not going to worry too much just because of one bad loss.

“We will sit back in the stand, have a look at him on Saturday and see how he goes and if he doesn’t run well we might have to change tactics with him.”

The trainer believes the bad form may have been caused by complications that arose from a gelding operation last October.

“He gelded badly and it looked like we were going to lose him at one stage,” Sadler said.

“Maybe that has had some sort of effect on him and he might need another break before we get him going.”

The $25,000 yearling has won two of his eight race starts and has accrued close to $110,000 in prize money.

“He’s a nice horse and he’s definitely got ability,” Sadler said.
