Thoughts of a mass exodus of runners has thankfully been avoided and Black Caviar will face a field of eight competitors at Moonee Valley on Friday night.

It was thought that the inclusion of the seemingly unbeatable super mare would scare off many owners and trainers and could lead to a farcical field for a Group 1 event.

Black Caviar is looking for her 11th win from as many starts and to further entrench herself as the best sprinter in the world.

Peter Moody is all but assured of another win and with the runners he’s included he’s a good chance to fill all of the places as well.

Hinchinbrook, Master Harry and Panipique give Moody nearly half the runners in the race.

There is only one other Group 1 winner in the field in Crystal Lily but after being dominated with a huge weight advantage in the Newmarket Handicap it’s highly unlikely she’ll be able to turn it around here.

The only possible query that could be found is the weather with showers and rain forecast from today right through until Friday.

Black Caviar has never run on heavy or slow ground and only has the four starts on a dead track.

Moody has given every indication the surface will not be an issue and it’s hard to see it making that much of a difference but it could be a new test.

At the time of acceptances the track was rated a Dead 4 but more rain and the earlier races could well see a downgrade.
