Eden Roc gets his chance to repay punters after going down as the odds on favourite when runner up on debut to Exceeds in the 1000m 2yo Plate at Randwick on January 21.

In opening markets at Ladbrokes.com.au Eden Roc has been posted at $3.60 ahead of the John O’Shea trained Veranillo at $4 while Exceeds has $7 written next to her name after drawing the outside barrier in the eleven horse field.

Edec Roc has drawn barrier seven with Tommy Berry to ride again after partnering the Star Witness colt in his debut second to Exceeds.

Eden Roc is a three quarter brother to Hawkes’ brilliant three year old Star Turn and they are hoping he can earn a start in the Group 1 $1.5m Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on February 25 with a winning performance this weekend.

“He’s a lovely horse,” Hawkes told Racing.com.

“He’s Star Turn’s three-quarter brother and they paid a lot of money for him.”

Second favourite Veranillo will jump from gate four with James Doyle aboard and the John O’Shea trained colt will be looking to keep his winning record intact after scoring on debut in an 1100m 2yo Handicap at Rosehill on November 12.

The James Cummings trained Exceeds is on the third line of betting at $7 but Brenton Avdulla will need plenty of luck from the outside gate.

Taking Aim is the only other runner under $10 at $8.50 and the Peter and Paul Snowden trained colt will jump from gate six with Hugh Bowman in the saddle.

The Choisir youngster has been placed at two race starts and after finishing third in a 1000m 2yo Maiden at Gosford on December 29 ran second to Menari in an 1100m 2yo Plate at Randwick on January 14.
