Team Snowden is reluctant to push Eawase too hard during the Queensland Winter Racing Carnival and are yet to confirm a start for the smart filly in the Group 1 $600,000 J.J. Atkins Plate (1600m) at Doomben on June 9.

Eawase showed her class when she made it two wins on the trot with a nice victory in the Listed $100,000 Bill Carter Stakes (1200m) at Doomben last Saturday but co-trainer Paul Snowden, who trains in partnership with his father Peter, said he is not going to rush into making a quick decision about the J.J. Atkins Plate.

“It’s awfully enticing, because it’s a Group 1 and she’s a very valuable filly,” Snowden told The Courier-Mail.

“But I’m certainly not going to blow it just to get her to a Group 1 and run ninth. If she’s not ready to go, she won’t go.”

“She’s another three or four months away. It’s all on natural ability at the moment.”

“She took a bit of time to get back on her feed after her first-up win, so I was very pleased to hear the guys say she licked the bin (Sunday morning).

‘‘That’s encouraging.

“She’s going to have it all before her in the spring.

‘‘If she puts her hand up, she will put her hand up.

“We’re certainly not going to make any decisions now whether she runs in the J.J. If she doesn’t run in that race, two weeks later there’s another two-year-old Listed race.

‘‘That will sort itself out in the next couple of days and the end of the week.”

Eawase has been to the races four times and has earned her connections $109,006 from her two wins, a third and a fourth and is on the second line of betting at $8 for the J.J. Atkins Plate at Ladbrokes.com.au behind the Chris Waller trained stablemates The Autumn Sun and Zousain at $6.
