Early Melbourne Cup Tips: Our Ivanhowe The Value

Ratings expert has Fame Game on top of his 2015 Melbourne Cup tips, but he believes it is Our Ivanhowe that represents the best value in betting markets for the Group 1 event that will be held at Flemington tomorrow afternoon.

Our Ivanhowe started his 2015 Spring Racing Carnival with a solid ninth place finish in the Group 3 Naturalism Stakes (2000m) at Caulfield on September 19, but he produced improved performances to finish second in the Group 3 The Bart Cummings (2520m) at Flemington on October 4 and the Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) on October 17.

The Solider Hollow entire is currently available at 2015 Melbourne Cup odds of $21, but Daily told RSN that he expects the five-year-old to start much shorter when the $6 million event jumps on Tuesday.

“The best longshot value for us is Our Ivanhowe,” Daily said.

“It is currently around the $21 mark, but I would suggest that horse will start a lot shorter than that tomorrow.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if it firms up to around where we have it at the $14 and $15 mark.

“He is a bit of a query at running a strong two miles, but he ticks a lot of boxes in terms of the formula required to win a Melbourne Cup.

“We are against any horse that hasn’t had a lead-up run and it is reasonable to suggest that you want to frame your markets around those horses.”

While Daily believes Our Ivanhowe is the value selection in the 2015 Melbourne Cup, he still believes that Fame Game is the horse to beat – although he does not believe that the Japanese stayer should be such a short-priced favourite.

Daily said that he was not as blown away by the Caulfield Cup performance of Fame Game as most racing experts and he expects that the Tenno Sho runner-up will be a drifter in the lead-up to the 2015 Melbourne Cup.

“I think this horse will drift for sure,” Daily said

“I can get him as short as $5 and at around that quote or better I will be interested in having something on.

“It is hard to get a good guide on this horse and he has been pretty well spruiked.

“$5 is our selection and he is still top pick for us, but that run in the Caulfield Cup probably wasn’t as a good as I would have liked to see.”

Fame Game is currently available at 2015 Melbourne Cup odds of $4 with Ladbrokes and he is a dominant favourite from Trip To Paris ($8.50), Preferment ($11), Max Dynamite ($1), Criterion ($14) and Almoonqith ($16).
