Jockey Dwayne Dunn will ride Drunken Sailor in the Caulfield Cup today

Dwayne Dunn says he will need to ride Drunken Sailor for luck in today’s 2011 $2.5m Group 1 Caulfield Cup(2400m).

The 2006 Caulfield Cup winning jockey on Tawqeet can see similarities in the way he will have to ride the Luca Cumani-trained import.

“I would have preferred to have been drawn inside barrier 10,” Dunn said this morning.

“It means he will get back further in the field than ideal.

“I can see myself weaving through traffic in the straight like I did with Tawqeet.”

Dunn nominated Varenna Miss in the Group 3 $125,000 Betfair Stakes (1400m) as the as his best ride of the day.

TheTony Noonan trained galloper finished fifth to Temple Of Boom in the Group 2 Gilgai (1200m) at Flemington .

Her run in that race was better than it looked as she raced down the inside of the track where the going was slower.

Dunn says he has a hope on Covered In Class but concedes Masthead will take beating in the second race the Listed 1400m Lightway Australia Stakes (1400m).

Dunn expects a good run from Response in the Group 2 Tristarc Stakes (1400m) at Flemington.

“He was disappointing when first up at Moonee Valley but was back to his best last start at Flemington.” Dunn said.

Dunn pointed to More Joyous and Sister Madly as the hardest for the dual Group 1 winner to beat.
