Trainer Chris Waller has abandoned his previous plans to take Albert The Fat to Dubai at the beginning of 2012.

Albert The Fat had originally been aimed at a number of races during the Dubai World Cup Carnival, however, they have been put aside in favour of a Sydney autumn campaign.

The horse was set to make an appearance in the Dubai Duty Free, which is worth an incredible $US5 million in prize money.

The seven-year-old gelding won his last start in the Group 1 Emirates Stakes at Flemignton on November 5 and has since been spelled after suffering from an elevated temperature last month.

Prior to that, the horse had been targeted towards the $1 million Railway Stakes in Perth.

Albert The Fat will now be aimed at both the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes and the $2m million Doncaster Handicap in Sydney.

Waller said the timing of the Dubai World Cup Carnival was to blame for his decision not to take Albert The Fat overseas.

“The fact that it’s right bang in the middle of our autumn carnival makes it a difficult exercise,” Waller said.

“It would be great if it was June or July but it’s not.

“And if you are chasing the big races in Sydney and you’ve young horses you need all your resources on the ground here.”

The trainer said he would still consider taking a group of horses to Dubai in the coming years.

“I haven’t discounted taking one horse over there in the future but at this stage it is unlikely that we would take a team,” he said.

Albert The Fat is experienced much success during his four start campaign during the spring, winning the $1 million Emirates Stakes and finishing second in both the Group 2 The Shorts and the Group 3 Betfair Stakes.

The Magic Albert gelding has won 11 of his 31 race starts and has now earned more than $1.25 million in prize money.
