Dry Track Key For That’s A Good Idea In Expressway Stakes

That’s A Good Idea is set to have a clear fitness edge over the majority of his rivals in the 2015 Expressway Stakes, but co-trainer Paul Snowden has revealed that the Rosehill Gardens track will need to dry out significantly for the promising sprinter to have any chance in the Group 2 event this weekend.

That’s A Good Idea has generally performed well in his six race starts since joining the Team Snowden stable before the start of the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival, but he has failed to fire in his five race starts on a rain affected surface and beat home just a single runner on a heavy track in the Group 3 Sebring Stakes (1200m) earlier this year.

The Rosehill Gardens track is currently rated a heavy nine and Snowden told Racing Ahead this morning that the track would have to improve quickly if That’s A Good Idea is going to take his place in the 2015 Expressway Stakes field.

“Unfortunately with this guy they need to be bone dry tracks otherwise he is pretty much useless,” Snowden said.

“His fate is going to be determined over the next couple of days to how much it dries out and if it does enough for him hopefully he is meeting a lot of horses first-up with targets later on through their campaigns.

“It is always helpful when you are tackling those horses first-up and he is a quality animal, but we are in the lap of the gods when it comes to the weather.”

That’s A Good Idea started his racing career in 2012 under the care of Mark De Montfort and he was transferred to the Joe Pride stable where he stamped himself as a genuine contender at Group level before he made his debut for Team Snowden in a Welter Handicap at Randwick on October 6.

The Flying Spur gelding finished second behind the talented Deep Field in the Listed City Tatts Club Lightning (1100m) at Royal Randwick on October 17, but he failed to fire in both the Group 2 Salinger Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on November 1 and the Listed Canterbury Classic (1200m) on December 27.

That’s A Good Idea returned to his best form when he finished a close second behind Ball Of Muscle in the Listed Takeover Target Stakes (1200m) at Gosford on January 9 and he was denied by the impressive Ninth Legion in the Listed Carrington Stakes (1400m) last Saturday.

Panzer Division is currently on top of 2015 Expressway Stakes betting markets at a quote of $3.40, while That’s A Good Idea is available at Expressway Stakes odds of $7.
