Doomben 10000 still on the agenda for Time For War

Sunshine Coast trainer Stuart Kendrick was a bit disappointed that Time For War as run down in the final fifty metres when second in the Listed $175,000 HMR Projects Pty Ltd Glasshouse Handicap (1300m) on his home track last Saturday.

But he is keen for the talented three year old to back up this weekend in the Doomben 10000 and then head onto the Group 1 $2m AAMI Stradbroke Handicap (1350m) at Doomben a fortnight later.

“I was a little disappointed to get beaten and he got softened up in front,” Kendrick told Racing Queensland News.

“But he had a little set back which didn’t help. I’ll see how he pulls up but I can’t see any reason not to keep going for the Doomben 10000 and then the Stradbroke.”

For War ($3.20 favourite) had to work hard from gate fourteen in the seventeen horse Glasshouse Handicap when jockey Jim Byrne tried to cross the field but he never found the fence and had to sit outside of Grayson Square ($31).

Byrne then let Time For War skip to a clear lead at the 250m but his early hard work took its toll and Riva De Lago ($26) was able to claim victory close to the line.

Time For War was having his second run for Kendrick and collected his second runner’s up cheque for the stable after finishing second to Nostradamus in the Group 3 $125,000 Attwood Marshall Lawyers Gold Coast Guineas (1200m) at the Gold Coast on Anzac Day.

Time For War was previously trained by prominent Sydney trainer Gerald Ryan and he showed above average ability during his two year old season with two of his three wins at Group 2 level.

Ryan was able to prepare Time For War for a win in the 2014 Group 2 $175,000 Bowermans Office Furniture Pago Pago Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill during the Sydney Autumn Carnival before bringing him to Queensland to win the Group 2 $250,000 Mitavite BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1350m) at Doomben during the Brisbane Winter Carnival.

Time For War is listed as a $34 chance for the Doomben 10000 at Ladbrokes.com.au while in the Stradbroke Handicap the Snitzel colt is marked as s $21 chance.

The Ciaron Maher trained Srikandi heads both market orders and is the $6.50 favourite for the Doomben 10000 and $8 top pick for the Stradbroke Handicap
