With a maximum of twenty-four degrees forecast, racegoers are set to witness a great eight event program on a Good 4 rated track under sunny skies.
The rail for Doomben 10,000 day will be out four metres for the entire course, out a further two metres than at last week’s Doomben Cup meeting.
Nine sprinters will go around in the Doomben 10,000 following the scratching of the Stuart Kendrick trained Divine Centuri on Friday after the filly was found to be lame.
Melbourne mare Azkadellia remains at the top of the market order for the Doomben 10000 at $3 with Ladbrokes.com.au ahead of the well supported Fell Swoop at $4.60 and Delectation at $4.80.
Trainer Ciaron Maher has stated that Azkadellia is not fully wound up for today’s weight for age contest but still considers her hard to beat against today’s opposition.
The Group 1 $1.5m AAMI Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm in two weeks time is the four year old’s main Winter Carnival mission.
“She’s done great up here, but I think I can have her a little better,’’ Maher told The Courier-Mail.
“The idea has always been to have her peaking in two weeks.
“When we came up here, this race had the right spacing leading up to the Stradbroke. It wasn’t a race I considered she could win. As it’s turned out, it’s a winnable race in terms of the competition.
“I won’t be disappointed if she gets beaten. It’s an on-pace track and she’s a get-back horse.”
While Azkadellia’s price has eased from $2.70 to $3, both Fell Swoop and Delectation have attracted plenty of support.
Canberra sprinter Fell Swoop with Zac Purton back in the saddle, has firmed in from $5.50 to be the second pick at $4.60 while the Chris Waller trained Delectation has also shortened up from $5.50 to be on the third line of betting at $4.80.
The John Thompson trained Hooked also has had plenty of backers at double figure odds and his price has tumbled in from $26 to be a $17 chance to win the Doomben 10,000 first up.
