Don’t Bank On Change In Caulfield Guineas

Peter Moody

Despite another impressive win Peter Moody says that Moment Of Change is not a sure thing for the Caulfield Guineas

Earlier this morning Peter Moody said Moment Of Change was far from a sure thing in the 2011 Caulfield Guineas and despite another dominating victory he’s sticking by that statement.

Moment Of Change debuted in a seemingly innocuous maiden at Murtoa at the end of August but the 10 length winning margin quickly put people on notice, in fact many even started throwing him up as a Caulfield Guineas prospect.

Today was to be his next test against harder company at Sandown Lakeside but he made it look like a barrier trial with another easy victory barely getting out of second gear.

Moody though is standing by what he said earlier on.

“This (Caulfield Guineas) is a bloody good field, I think it’s been ridiculous probably the hype around the horse,” he said.

“We’ve got a good opinion of the horse but he’s big and green, he’s far from a push button horse.

“There’s no pressure and no thought of the Guineas on our mind at all at the moment.”

In the post race interview this afternoon he once again urged punters to be cautious when taking a long range look at the Caulfield Guineas.

“He’s a good horse, I don’t know how good,” Moody said.

“He hasn’t been tested at home or at the races…we’re not going to get ahead of ourselves.”

One thing he made certain is that the horse will not be seen in the Guineas Prelude in 10 days time.

“Won’t run in the Guineas Prelude…too soon seven furlongs around Caulfield,” he said.

“(We’ll look at the) Strutt Stakes, I wouldn’t even rule out another restricted race.

“I think he’s got a lot of potential, but he’s just such a big raw horse.”

Moody is confident that one day we’ll be seeing Moment Of Change at Group 1 level, it’s just a matter of when.

“I think he’s in the top bracket but whether it’s this time in or next I don’t know,” he said.

“It’d be a big ask to ask a horse to go to the Guineas first prep.”
