Divorces leads trainer Peter Snowden's chances for victory at Doomben

The 2011 racing year has been very kind to Peter Snowden and he’s looking to continue his Autumn Carnival success with a few well placed horses in Brisbane over the next few weeks.

Many consider his best chance to be Divorces which will jump as favourite tomorrow in the Doomben Roses over 2020m.

She is coming off a tremendous in on the Gold Coast which has run her right into peak form.

“She was still in good order so I thought we’d have  a crack at the Gold Coast, Ii thought her win was excellent,” Snowden said.

“She’s come up through the run terrifically, I think she’ll run well.”

The only question mark about Divorce’s going into the race is the distance with Snowden never really expecting her to run more than a mile.

“2000m I think is ok, beyond that we’ll have to see after Saturday because there’s a bit of a question in my mind,” he said

“She’s in good order and soft draw is a big plus for her.”

Divorce’s grabbed gate five for the run alongside her biggest rival the New Zealand filly Scarlett Lady in four.

She’s not the only contender for Snowden at Doomben tomorrow though with Skilled running in the final race of the day, the Fred Best Classic.

The barrier draw wasn’t as king to him though and from barrier 18 it would be a monumental task to get home.

“From that gate it’s very awkward, we’ll just have to play it by ear,” he said.

The form of the horse in Sydney left a lot to be desired and Snowden is optimistic he’s improved but can’t be 100% sure.

“He’s as fit as i can get him, he’s a terrible track worker so you don’t get a really good guide,” he said.

His other chance tomorrow is Free Wheeling which will run in the Champagne Classic.

It’s a very tough field and he has also struggling with the marbles and will start from barrier 12.

” Needs a bit of luck form that draw but he’ll go very well,” he said.

He wasn’t far away with his last start at Canterbury and Snowden says he’s a better horse coming into Doomben.

“He relaxed really well at Canterbury,” he said.

“I thought he worked the line quite well and has taken a lot more fitness out of that run.”

Snowden has also come well and truly into contention in the Doomben 10,000 with Black Caviar withdrawn yesterday.

Beaded has run in her company previously and now is a second favourite behind the odds on Hay List.

“She’s excellent, goes up Saturday night, she’ll be going up there in good order,” he said.
