Dissident Early Favourite In Makybe Diva Stakes Betting

Dissident is currently available at 2014 Makybe Diva Stakes odds of $3.10 and is a clear favourite to record his second straight win at Group 1 level at Flemington on Saturday.

Dissident returned to the races with a classy two and a half lengths victory over Sweet Idea in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) and punters are confident that he can repeat the dose when he steps up to a mile at Flemington this weekend.

Boban is on the second line of 2014 Makybe Diva Stakes betting markets and there has been a sprinkling of support for the talented gelding to return to winning form; with the son of Bernardini backed into $4.50.

The five-year-old has recorded three Group 1 wins from as many starts over a mile since he joined the Chris Waller stable and the leading Sydney trainer is confident that Boban can maintain that record in the Makybe Diva Stakes.

“Barrier four is going to make the job a little easier in a field of 11 runners with no pace,” Waller said.

“I think we will get him to switch off from that gate.

“He is going terrific, fourth and a fifth in Group races, and he will give them something to beat on Saturday.

“His work has been tip top.”

Puissance De Lune was narrowly denied a maiden win at Group 1 level by the Waller-trained Foreteller in the Makybe Diva Stakes last year and he has been set for a third-up tilt at the 2014 edition of the race.

The Shamardal entire returned to a semblance of his best form with a strong third in the Memsie Stakes and is available at Makybe Diva Stakes odds of $6, but trainer Darren Weir believes that the popular grey still needs to improve to record a maiden Group 1 victory.

“He would have to improve on what he has done, but I think that he is in good order,” Weir told RSN yesterday.

“Hopefully getting back to Flemington and the step-up in trip suits.”

Messene is also available at single figure odds, but has drifted out to $8.50 after his Memsie Stakes flop, while Spillway has been the clear market mover with Ladbrokes Australia and is into $9.50 after opening at $12 when the final field was released yesterday.

Spillway scored his maiden Australian racing win when he took out the Group 3 Japan Racing Association Plate (2000m) at the end of the 2014 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival and he returned to racing with a narrow second to Star Rolling in the Group 2 P.B. Lawrence Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on August 16.

Fawkner is set to resume in the 2014 Makybe Diva Stakes and the Caulfield Cup winner is available at odds of $10 to score the third first-up win of his career, while stablemate Green Moon is at a quote of $26 to record his first race win since he took out the 2012 Melbourne Cup.

There has been a sprinkling of support for 2013 Australian Cup winner Super Cool ($41) and Robbie Laing-trained Don Doremo, but Sertorius has been the big drifter and he is out to $21.
