It’s the type of story that the racing industry thrives upon and we could be seeing a new one in the making after yesterday’s Warwick Farm meeting.

Didntcostalot sums up the racing dream pretty much perfectly, a cheap pickup from the yearling sales by small time owners sent to a local trainer who turns it into a champion.

While sure winning on a Wednesday at Warwick Farm doesn’t quite mean champion status the signs are there that it could be a possibility.

Didtcostalot was bought for a mere $3000 and since then the colt is yet to be beaten.

He’s had only the three starts but things looked good from day one when he won a Wyong maiden by five and a half lengths, breaking the 1100m record in the process.

After that it was on to the 1200m at Gosford and once again he won convincingly by a length and a half.

Yesterday was his first visit to the city but he was just as impressive as ever winning by two and a half lengths over 1100m on a slow track.

Trainer Marc Conners is undoubtedly excited by the prospects of the three year old but he’s willing to be patient with him.

“He’s going to the paddock and he’ll come back for the autumn,” Conners said.

“He’s probably an 1100 and 1200 metre horse so we’ll sit down and see what’s going to be available for him in the autumn. He’s an exciting horse.”

Amazingly yesterday’s time of 1:03.89 is a new class record even though the ground was rain affected.

“I always thought he was going to be better on a wet track,” Conners said.

“He trialled here this preparation on a very heavy track and ran very fast time. I was just waiting for the day to get him on a wet track and today it came.”

While he still may be a way away from creating his own fairytale Didntcostalot is certainly a horse to keep an eye on when he returns next year.
