Didntcostalot And He’s Worth Every Penny

The cheapest horse during this year’s Gold Coast Magic Million’s yearling sales was $5000 for a horse by Oratorio.

If the owners of that purchase needed any inspiration as to what the future might hold then they need not look any further than Marc Conners star three year old.

The aptly named Didntcostalot was picked up for a mere $3000 when he went through the ring a couple of years ago.

It seemed everyone overlooked the colt out of Danerich, something that they’d now regret given the huge start he’s had in his career.

In fact from three starts Didntcostalot remains unbeaten.

He led all the way on debut over 1100m at Wyong to win by over five lengths, did the same over 1200m at Gosford to win by one and a half and last start it was another post to post win, this time by two and a half over 1100m at Warwick Farm.

Conners knows he’s onto something promising and he’s thrilled to keep testing the horse.

“Every hurdle I put in front of him he’s been able to get over quite easy, just hoping he keeps doing the same,” he said.

“He’s always shown he’s had ability but this time he’s come back he’s shown that he’s really stepped up to the mark.”

Conners says now they understand the horse a bit better they can really get to the bottom of him.

“Last prep we were just sort of feeling our way but now we can plan our prep and hopefully go from strength to strength,” he said.

As far any change to his forward running style at the moment there’s no need but it’s not being ruled out for the future.

“He’s always been a horse that wants to go very hard into his races…he’s settling a lot better now,” he said.

“Who knows what will happen in the future but at the moment he’s an 1100m, 1200m horse.”

Another big plus is that his three wins have come on three different surfaces between slow and good.

Didntcostalot runs this Saturday in a Benchmark 80 over 1100m at Warwick Farm where he’ll face a field with a maximum of five rivals.
