Darley mare Detours will be retired to stud on a winning note after taking out the Listed $100,000 Channel Seven Bright Shadow Handicap (1200m) at Eagle Farm today.

Detours made it two wins from two Winter Carnival starts and trained Peter Snowden said that the Ad Valorem mare had done enough after adding another black type win to her record.

“She’s got nothing else to prove, she’s a Group 3 winner, Group 2 placed, won three stakes races, she’s got the black type we need for breeding and I would think she’s well placed to go to stud,” Snowden said.

Snowden had mapped out a two race Queensland campaign for Detours and the mare rewarded the stable with a winning double after taking out the Listed $150,000 Attwood Marshall Lawyers Silk Stocking (1200m) at the Gold Coast on May 4.

“She’s not the most brilliant filly we’ve ever had at Crown Lodge but gees she’s one of the most honest. She really does run to the best of her ability every start she has had and such was the case at the Gold Coast the other day. She didn’t win by a big margin but you knew she was going to stick her head out and win,” Snowden said.

Winning rider Kerrin McEvoy was able to take full advantage of the inside barrier and after being first out of the barriers was able to give Detours the run of the race in the box seat behind the leader Bound To Plush.

McEvoy was then able to find a way in between runners in the straight and went on to score a comfortable win from Sharnee Rose and Dystopia.
