Deploy and Dothraki headline 2017 W.J. Healy Stakes nominations

The Gerald Ryan trained Deploy and Team Snowden’s Dothraki are set to clash again after being nominated for the Group 3 $175,000 W.J. Healy Stakes (1200m) at Doomben on Saturday.

Deploy fought back to beat Dothraki in the Group 2 $175,000 Ascot Green Moreton Cup (1200m) at Doomben on June 3 and both sprinters are among the twenty-two nominations for the W.J. Healy Stakes.

Deploy has been a model of consistency throughout his career and has only missed a place once from thirteen starts which includes six wins and six minor placings.

The Fastnet Rock four year old was clearly headed by Dothraki at the 100m but fought back to record a very gutsy win in the Moreton Cup.

Peter and Paul Snowden have also nominated Flippant who will be going into the W.J. Healy Stakes first up after not having raced since finishing third to Dixie Blossoms in the Group 2 $200,000 Guy Walter Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on February 25.

Local sprinter Too Good To Refuse was narrowly beaten last start when second to Miss Gunpowder in the Listed $100,000 Makers Mark Hinkler Handicap (1200m) at Doomben on June 10 and the Desleigh Forster trained four year old will get his chance for a Winter Carnival feature win in the W.J. Healy Stakes.

James Cummings has nominated Burning Passion who will be stepping up in class in the Group 3 sprint after winning a 1200m BenchMark 95 Handicap at Eagle Farm on May 27.

Victoria’s leading trainer Darren Weir has nominated Ulmann who will be well placed here after only being beaten four and a half lengths when eleventh to Impending in the Group 1 $1.5m Stradbroke Handicap (1350m) at Doomben on June 10.

There starts back Ulmann was successful in winning the Listed $150,000 Wangoon Handicap (1200m) at Warrnambool on May 3 and then ran third behind Jungle Edge and High Midnight in the Group 3 $125,000 Taxibox BRC Sprint (1350m) at Doomben on May 20.
