Demanding Surface Attracts Baldwin To Rosehill

Conditions at Rosehill should suit Demanding Miss

Barry Baldwin isn’t the only Brisbane trainer happy to see the rain pouring down in New South Wales with slow track specialists not having a lot of options north of the border in the last month or so.

It’s a very different story in Sydney with torrential rain turning racecourses across the state into a mud runners paradise.

Baldwin has a big opinion of his filly Demanding Miss and feels that at Rosehill this Saturday conditions will be suiting her perfectly.

She was to be a runner in the Queensland Guineas at Eagle Farm but that plan fell to pieces after a small accident ended that dream.

“She was freshened up for the Queensland Guineas but unfortunately bumped her leg prior and we couldn’t start her,” Baldwin said.

“The leg has healed well over the last week, so we decided to head to Sydney where we could bring her back to the mile and take advantage of the heavy track.”

Demanding Miss has mixed it with some of the best horses during the Brisbane Winter Carnival and on paper she should win this race with nowhere near the quality of opposition.

Scarlett Lady, Torio’s Quest and even Stradbroke winner Sincero are all horses she’s faced of late so there’s certainly no fear or intimidation as she drops in grade.

While Baldwin has been attracted by the rain, ironically it was almost the thing that stopped him as well.

Travel along the eats coast has been a nightmare with the Pacific Highway cut in multiple sections due to flooding.

“Due to the constant rain we haven’t been able to leave until today.

“I would have preferred to have left earlier in the week, so we will be arriving a little closer to the race than I would like,” Baldwin said.

She’ll be based at the Randwick stables, a place she feels comfortable as it’s been her home a couple of times before.

In fact at Rosehill this Saturday it will be her sixth start at Sydney tracks.
“It is a good thing that she has stayed at the Randwick stables a few times now and feels at home once she is there.”
Also familiar to her will be the rider Tommy Berry who has partnered her once before to a second solid second placed finish.
