Talented sprinter Deep Field has been retired from racing and will stand at Newgate Farm Stud for the upcoming breeding season.

Deep Field stamped himself as a horse to watch when he made his racing debut with an effortless ten lengths victory in his racing debut at Gosford in June last year and he went on to record dominant victories in two subsequent starts at Canterbury.
The Northern Meteor entire made his black type racing debut with a comfortable victory in the Listed City Tatts Club Lightning (1100m) at Royal Randwick on October 18 and he recorded a tough win in the Group 2 Salinger Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on Victoria Derby Day.
Deep Field was heavily backed in the lead-up to the Group 1 Black Caviar Lightning Stakes (1000m) at Flemington on February 21 and was touted as the most exciting horse in the country heading into the race, but he was not match for Lankan Rupee in the final stages of the race and he could finish no better than third.
The four-year-old suffered another disappointing defeat in the Group 3 Maurice McCarten Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens on March 14 and he was beaten by eight lengths in the Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m) at the same venue a week later.
Deep Field may not have lived up to his potential on the racetrack, but Newgate Farm Managing Director Henry Field said that he is extremely excited to acquire the stallion and believes that he is capable of following in the footsteps of his late sire Northern Meteor.
“A horse with amazing presence and a powerful sprinters physique, Deep Field was an electric sprinter that won his first five starts in succession by a combined total of 24 lengths,” Field said in a statement.
“When a horse like Deep Field comes along and shows the highly desirable attributes of brilliant, record breaking speed, good temperament and physical type to match his impressive pedigree, he has to be a massive chance to follow in the footsteps of his sire Northern Meteor.”
Newgate Farm currently have 2012 William Reid Stakes winner Foxwedge, former Queensland star Sizzling, Group 1 placegetter Eurozone and speedy American stallion The Factor on their stallion roster and they have now added Deep Field and four-time Group 1 winner Dissident for the 2015 Southern Hemisphere breeding season.
