Debut Win For Makybe Diva Foal

Three time Melbourne Cup winner Makybe Diva’s first foal Rockstardom has won the first race of his career at Bendigo racecourse today.

The four-year-old finally made his way into the winners circle in a Bendigo maiden after failing at his previous seven starts.

The victory came after the $1.5 million yearling purchase was gelded following his last place finish in the Listed VRC St Leger last start.

Jockey Mark Zahra believes Rockstardom will be even better as he steps up in distance.

He’s probably going to be better over a trip,” Zahra said.

“I wasn’t worried when a couple went around me.

“I just let them go and, luckily for me, he hit the front and just pulled up.

“First up at a mile he hasn’t done a bad job after being held up at the top of the straight, to pick up off that and come home and win.

“The further the better for him.”

Rockstardom is by Irish stallion Galileo and is trainer at Flemington by Danny O’Brien.
