Daysee Doom freshened up for Godolphin Crown

Trainer Ron Quinton has freshened up his smart mare Daysee Doom as she drops back in distance for the Group 3 $175,000 Godolphin Crown (1300m) at Hawkesbury on Saturday.

Quinton had originally planned to run Daysee Doom in the Group 1 $1m Coolmore Legacy Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) at Randwick on April 8 but decided to bring the four year old mare back to 1300m for the Hawkesbury’s standalone meeting that carries Metropolitan status.

“I was a bit concerned that 1600m at Randwick might (be too far for her) so we decided to go the other way and give her a freshen and, if she went well in this race, we might take her to Scone (for the Dark Jewel Classic as well),” Quinton told The Daily Telegraph.

“She has come back looking really, really good and I’m very happy with her going into it. There are no easy ones but it’s a race that probably suits her.”

Daysee Doom’s form during the 2017 Sydney Autumn Carnival has been near the mark and Quinton is adamant that with a bit more luck the mare could have won the Group 2 $200,000 Ascend Sales Trophies Emancipation Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill on March 25 instead of finishing second to the John Thompson trained Zanbagh.

The Quinton trained Dixie Blossoms was also in the prizemoney in the Emancipation Stakes, finishing in third position.

“Both my mares should have beat the winner in the Emancipation and they were both a bit stiff on the day,” Quinton said.

“Daysee Doom was on speed but (Euro Angel) caused a bit of trouble going around the first turn and she was (pushed) out three-deep and was there for the rest of the trip and she only got beat a head.

“Taking that form into this race she should run well and she worked beautifully (Tuesday).”

Apprentice Andrew Adkins has retained the mount on Daysee Doom who came up with barrier twelve in the original draw but could jump from gate nine when the field is reduced to fourteen runners on race day with all three emergencies drawing inside of her.

Daysee Doom sits on the second line of betting at $4.20 for the Godolphin Crown behind Peter and Paul Snowden trained Artistry who is the $3.80 favourite at Ladbrokes.com.au.

Artistry has drawn nicely at barrier four with Hugh Bowman in the saddle again after partnering the mare into third place behind Secret Agenda and Missrock  in the Group 2 $300,000 Sapphire Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on April 8.
