Day Procedure Seeks Moonee Valley Race Win

Day Procedure will be looking to return to the winner’s circle when he runs at Moonee Valley Racecourse this weekend.

The three-year-old will line up for the $100,000 Three-Years-Old Handicap over 1,000 metres.

Day Procedure will come up against the likes of Listed winner Elite Elle when he runs in Saturday’s handicap.

Trained at Caulfield Racecourse by Robert Smerdon, Day Proceure will be looking to improve on his last start fifth in the $80,000 D’Urban Plate in April.

Smerdon believes the Snippetson’s quick break from racing will make the winning difference when he runs in five day’s time.

“He’s had a short freshen-up and I don’t know what the track condition is going to be but he likes Moonee Valley and he is effective over the 1000 metres,” Smerdon said.

Day Procedure has an impressive record at Moonee Valley, claiming two of his four wins at the track.

On another occasion, the sprinter placed a gallant second to Newmarket Handicap winner Shamexpress in Moonee Valley’s Chandler McLeod Premium Handicap in January.

“He won a 955 metre race there and also a 1000 metre race there so it’s a good surface for him and he’ll have the benefit of (apprentice jockey) Jackie Beriman’s three kilo claim.”

Jockey Jackie Beriman has been Day Procedure’s rider for her past seven starts and has been aboard the gelding for two of his wins.

Day Procedure has won four of his 11 race starts and has earned close to $110,000 in prize money during his horse racing career.

Purchased for just $35,000 from the 2010 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale, Day Procedure has won over the 1,000 metre distance on three previous occasions.

His most recent win came four starts back when he won the $35,000 Spotless Handicap in Melbourne on February 8 this year.
