The ATC has confirmed Day 1 of The Championships at Royal Randwick has been postponed following heavy rainfall.
Set to play host to four talent-rich Group 1 feature races including the Doncaster Mile (1600m), the meet has been rescheduled for Monday, April 6th; a day for which clearing weather is currently forecast.
“Unfortunately we galloped two horses here at 6am and it was rated in the heavy range then, it continued to rain all morning and we had a further inspection just after 9 o’clock and that showed water was starting to open up the holes on the track,” Deputy Chairman of Stewards Greg Rudolph said.
“Really it becomes a visibility issue on the day with continuing rain and deteriorating conditions.”
All tickets purchased for Day 1 of The Championships remain valid for Monday’s rescheduled meet.
