Dawnie Perfect was beaten in three maidens at Wyong, Canterbury and Kembla Grange during her 2015 Spring Racing Carnival, but she relished the step-up to 2000 metres and she finished over the top of Honesta and Ambience to record her maiden race win in the Ethereal Stakes.

Jockey Jim Cassidy timed his ride to perfection on Dawnie Perfect in the Ethereal Stakes and he believes that the Big Brown filly has the staying to ability to deliver him, trainer Clarry Connors and owner John Singleton another victory in the Crown Oaks.

“She has had a good prep coming here and she was a maiden heading towards the Oaks,” Cassidy said.

“It is good for Singo, Duncan and Clarry.

“Singo has been solid and I won an Oaks for him on Dear Demi a couple of years ago.

“She will run the trip and we are going into it with a win.

“She has continued to improve and Clarry was very confident this morning coming down here that she would run the trip.

“It was a good win.”

Marc Connors was representing his father Clarry Connors at Caulfield this afternoon and he was very pleased with the tough staying performance of Dawnie Perfect in the Ethereal Stakes.

Connors confirmed that the Group 1 Crown Oaks (2500m) at Flemington has always been the major 2015 Spring Racing Carnival target for Dawnie Perfect and he said that the three-year-old will likely have her next race start in the Group 2 Wakeful Stakes (2000m) at Flemington on Victoria Derby Day.

“It was a good effort today,” Connors said.

“She sat wide, but she was still able to stick it out to the finish.

“She has come down here at the right time of the year, she is in the right type of 2000 metres race and she is just going to improve again.

“She will go around in the Wakeful.”

Ambience started the Ethereal Stakes as a clear favourite and she was given every chance in running, but she just appeared to peak on her run late and now appears unlikely to press on to the Crown Oaks, while Honesta produced another credible performance to finish second.
