Dawn Wall’s Queensland Oaks Odds Shorten

Dawn Wall is into 2017 Queensland Oaks odds of $6 and the promising filly has been the clear market mover in betting for the Group 1 event at Doomben this afternoon.

Dawn Wall was available at Queensland Oaks odds of $9 earlier in the week, but there has been consistent supporter for the Chris Waller-trained three-year-old as she chases a maiden Group 1 victory.

The daughter of Fastnet Rock stamped herself as a filly with plenty of ability when she won the Group 3 Kembla Grange Classic (1600m) on March 10 before she was beaten as one of the favourites in the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill Gardens on March 25.

Dawn Wall was freshened up for the Listed Gold Coast Bracelet (1800m) on May 6 and she worked her way into Queensland Oaks calculations with the win, but has not been seen at the races since.

Waller told punters not to worry about the fitness level of Dawn Wall heading into the Queensland Oaks, but he admits that the wide barrier draw means that she will need a touch of luck in running.

“That is a really tricky draw,” Waller said.

“I guess that Hughie will see how she jumps, but she is a pretty versatile filly.

“It is four weeks between runs, but she has certainly done plenty of work over the past two weeks.

“She heads to the race as fit as we could have her.

“She had an exhibition last week and Hughie was happy with the way that she worked.

“She has the class and just needs a bit of luck from the draw.”

While Dawn Wall has been the best-backed runner in the 2017 Queensland Oaks betting market with Ladbrokes, her stablemate Egg Tart remains a clear favourite.

Egg Tart made it five wins on the trot with her excellent victory in the Group 1 Australasian Oaks (2000m) at Morphettville on May 6 and she has been backed from $3.40 into $3.10 to complete the Oaks Double.

The big drifter at the top of the 2017 Queensland Oaks betting market with Ladbrokes has been Australasian Oaks runner-up Kenedna, who has drifted from $4.60 out to $6 since the final field was released earlier this week.

Kenedna has since won the Group 2 The Roses (2000m) at Dooomben on May 20, but punters are happy to take her on this afternoon.

The only other horses that are currently available at single-figure Queensland Oaks odds are South Australian Fillies Classic winner Ana Royale ($8) and The Roses runner-up Oklahoma Girl ($9.50).
