Fifty-four sprinters were nominated for the weight for age Group 1 $750,000 James Boag’s Premium Doomben 10000 (1350m) to be run at Doomben on May 28 when entries close on Wednesday, but late nominations can be made up to 11am on Friday May 6, 2016.

Group 1 winner Stratum Star and former West Australian galloper Black Heart Bart head Weir’s list of nine that also includes Chivalry, La Passe, Ragesse, Scarlet Billows, Sooboog, Stellar Collision and Tuscan Sling.

Stratum Star claimed his Group 1 prize when he beat Disposition and Under The Louvre to win the Group 1 $400,000 Anthea Crawford Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield during the 2015 Melbourne Spring Carnival.

And Weir has Black Heart Bart racing in fine order since taking over the reins from Perth trainer Vaughn Sigley with the five year old being Group 1 placed twice as well as winning the Group 3 $150,000 Victoria Handicap (1400m) at Caulfield on March 26.

Black Heart Bart flashed home to run second to The Quarterback in the Group 1 $1.25m Lexus Newmarket Handicap (1200m) at Flemington on March 12 and then last start he was narrowly beaten again when second to English in the Group 1 $600,000 Schweppes All Aged Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on April 16.

Sydney’s leading trainer Chris Waller also has multiple entries for the Doomben 100000 with Group 1 winners Japonisme and Delectation as well as Counterattack, Star Wondering and Strawberry Boy.

The Lindsay Park Team of David Hayes and Tom Dabernig have nominated five, Fast ‘N’ Rocking, Kay Jay’s Joy, Miss Promiscuity, Sheidel and Wawail.

Last start Queen Of The Turf Stakes winner Azkadellia is one of two horses entered by Caulfield trainer Ciaron Maher, the other one being Girl Guide.

Lee and Anthony Freedman have entered the promising Malaguerra while Gai Waterhouse also has only one entry with Echo Gal.

The well performed Sacred Star will have to fly the flag for the Kiwis in the Doomben 10000 and is coming off a last start win in the Group 3 NZ$100,000 Darley Plate (1200m) at Ellerslie on March 5.

The Tony Pike trained Sacred Star was able to put two Group 1 wins back to back during the summer of 2015 with wins in the NZ$250,000 Telegraph Handicap (1200m) at Trentham and in the NZ$200,000 NRM Sprint (1400m) at Te Rapa.

The final field for the Doomben 10000 will be released on Wednesday, May 25, 2016.
