Sepoy's spring goal will be the Coolmore Stud Stakes

He runs one of the most dominant stables in Australia and his efforts throughout the 2010 / 2011 left many in awe.

He commanded an unprecedented clean sweep of the Group 1 juvenile series and had a major chance in just about every big event throughout the calendar.

Peter Snowden is naturally expected to come back bigger and better than ever this season and he’ll be relying on one horse more than any other over the spring period.

Sepoy is arguably Darley’s number one commodity at the moment after dominating the Blue Diamond Stakes and the Golden Slipper.

He’ll be sent off for three year old glory over the spring with an international tilt at Royal Ascot also on the agenda in the not too distant future.

The main aim with Sepoy this season is to boost his stud value as much as possible and Snowden says he’s confident they’ll be able to achieve that goal.

He runs first up in the Vain Stakes this weekend and like everyone else Snowden can’t wait to see just what transpires.

“It’ll be exciting, he was such a dominant 2YO, he’s come back just as good as ever, his works been terrific,” Snowden said.

“He has physically changed, his approach is the same, he’s very laid back,..you never hear a peep from him, he’s very nice to work with.”

Sepoy enjoyed a pretty easy time of it tactics wise over that autumn, he settled on or near the pace and was ridden like the best horse in the race simply because there’s no doubt he was.

This season though Snowden says if the race dynamics call for it they could change things up, but they won’t be getting back too far.

“I think we’ll always leave the options open, different races require different tactics, he’s a natural speed horse and he’ll always be in the first four or five of his races,” he said.

With the tactics settled it comes down to race scheduling with his program vital in order to maximise stud value.

For that reason Snowden isn’t locking in any particular path at the moment instead taking things one race at a time as he eases his way into the spring.

“I’m sure he’ll run well on Saturday and all going well we’ll go to the Danehill Stakes after,” Snowden said.

“He did have his first start down the straight, so he has been there before and it’s home track.”

In terms of long term goals though Snowden he admits there is one race he has in mind with all roads eventually leading to the Coolmore Stud Stakes.

“Ultimately the Coolmore is the race we want to run in,” he said.

Sepoy is just one horse coming out of the might of Snowden’s Darley operation for the spring with plenty of other good types to keep an eye on.
