Danedream Stands In The Way Of Williams’ Japan Cup Hopes

Craig Williams will attempt to outdo race favourite Danedream when he takes on the Japan Cup in Tokyo this Sunday.

The in-form jockey is aboard second favourite Tosen Jorden for the $6.5 million race, who won the Group 1 Tenno Sho in record time last month.

Williams is in japan for a six-week long riding assignment following his incredibly successful spring campaign.

Danedream’s trainer Peter Schiergen is not at all concerned about facing Williams’ mount in the race, and believes his horse has the goods to win.

The German filly pleased her connections during a routine trackwork gallop in Japan yesterday.

“I asked the jockey to drive her a bit strongly in the last 600 metres,” Schiergen said.

“We used the dirt course because the turf was a bit too firm, but I’m very satisfied with the condition she is in.”

Danedream won last month’s Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe in France in record time.

“She’s in the same form as she was for the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, so our hopes are high,” her trainer said.
