A trip to the USA could be on the agenda for Melbourne-bound stayer Dandino who could possibly follow the exact same path that took stablemate Jakkalberry to third place in last year’s Melbourne Cup.

Fresh off a fast-finishing second in the Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes at Royal Ascot, a race Jakkalberry finished fifth in last year, Dandino is being considered for a tilt at the American St Leger Stakes (2700m) at Arlington in August.

Jakkalberry was a dominant winner at Arlington before arriving in Australia for the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups and owners Australian Thoroughbred Bloodstock have confirmed the race is definitely on Dandino’s radar.

“ATB’s Dandino has pulled up very well following his Hardwicke Stakes 2nd on the weekend and next start may be in the US in August,” the offical ATB twitter account said.

The Hardwicke Stakes was just Dandino’s second start for new trainer Marco Botti who took over the job when ATB purchased the son of Dansili to beef up their Melbourne Cup squad.

Prior to joining Botti Dandino was a Group 3 winner in last year’s September Stakes and ran second in the Group 1 Canadian International Stakes.

Jakkalberry, meanwhile, will again be set for Australia’s biggest race after recovering from a leg injury that occurred during his win in the Group 2 Dubai City Of Gold at Meydan in March.

Speaking with ATB’s Darren Dance at Royal Ascot last week, Botti said he is optimistic the future stallion prospect can again make an impact at the spring carnival.

“Jakkalberry is recovering really well, we’re really pleased with the way he’s progressing,” Botti said.

“He’s due to start cantering in a week’s time and hopefully he’s still on schedule for the Melbourne Cup. We couldn’t be happier and so far, so good.”
