Dances On Stars To Be Hard To Beat In BRC Sprint

Trainer Gerald Ryan has been delighted with the form of Dances On Stars this preparation and he believes the consistent sprinter will be tough to beat in the 2014 BRC Sprint at Doomben on Saturday.

Dances On Stars started his summer campaign with a narrow win in the Listed Carrington Stakes (1100m) at Royal Randwick on January 1 and was just denied a second straight black type victory when he finished second behind Emblems in the Listed Takeover Target Stakes (1200m) at Gosford on January 10.

The Snitzel gelding was competitive in the Group 3 Southern Cross Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick on February 22, the Listed National Sprint (1400m) at Canberra on March 9 and the Group 3 Sebring Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens on April 5 before returning to winning form with an impressive victory in the Listed Prime Minister’s Cup (1300m) at the Gold Coast on May 3.

Ryan told Racing Ahead that he was delighted with the win of Dances On Stars in the Prime Minister’s Cup and believes that the four-year-old gets into the BRC Sprint this weekend very well in the weights; rating Dances On Stars a better winning chance than Angel Of Mercy in the Group 1 Doomben Cup (2000m) and Dothraki in the Group 3 Fred Best Classic (1350m).

“He is flying and has been all prep,” Ryan said.

“He has been in work since October, he has had a couple of freshen ups in the meantime, and he has been good.

“I like his weight; he has 55 and a half and he has dropped a kilo from the other day and is only a kilo and a half above the minimum.

“The quicker that they go up front, the quicker that he will hit the line.

“He was ultra-impressive at the Gold Coast and he has done really well since.

“He has been to the beach a couple of times, we don’t do a lot of work with him, and he will be very hard to beat on Saturday.

“Out of the three of them I’d say he is my best chance; he is going really good.”

Dances On Stars is currently available at 2014 BRC Sprint odds of $6.50; with Kelso Wood-trained Someday ($5), Darley sprinter Emblems ($5), Listed winner River Lad ($7) and the ultra-consistent Benny’s Buttons ($7) all receiving plenty of support in the betting market for the Group 3 event.
