Dances On Stars started his winter preparation with an eighth place finish in the Listed Chief De Beers Quality (1110m) at Doomben on April 11 and he chased home Srikandi and Ball Of Muscle in the Group 2 Victory Stakes (1200m) at the Gold Coast on April 25.

The Snitzel gelding has an excellent record at the Gold Coast and has failed to fire in his subsequent starts, but Ryan said that he is hopeful that a three week break will help the five-year-old reproduce his strong Victory Stakes effort in the Glasshouse Handicap.

“He also ran well at the Gold Coast on Prime Minister’s Cup Day and three years in a row he won, ran second and third in major races up there and his next run has always been a little bit flat, but it has normally been only a fortnight later,” Ryan told Racing Ahead.

“That is why this year we have given him three weeks between that race and this race.

“58 is as much as the horse likes to carry because he is only a little fellow, but in saying that his pattern of racing is too get back maybe worse than midfield and the one thing I have learnt about the Sunshine Coast is that you don’t scratch because of wide barriers.

“They have one of the best tracks in Australia and if they can run on with a bit of speed in the race, he will be hitting the line really hard.”

Dances On Stars has not recorded a race win since he took out the Listed Prime Minister’s Cup (1300m) at the Gold Coast on May 3, but Ryan believes that the Doomben 10,000 hopeful is in the best physical condition of his racing career to date.

“He looks very good and it is probably the best I have ever seen the horse look,” Ryan said.

“He has dapples all over him, he has a coat on him like it is the middle of summer and he is working good.”

Dances On Stars is currently available at 2015 Glasshouse Handicap odds of $7 with Ladbrokes Australia and he is on the third line of betting behind Time For War ($5) and Allez Eagle ($6).
