Dabernig Thrilled With Gregers Ahead Of 2015 The Goodwood

Co-trainer Tom Dabernig has revealed that he could not be happier with Gregers heading into the 2015 The Goodwood and he said that he would not swap the talented mare for any other runner in the Group 1 event at Morphettville this weekend.

Gregers started her autumn campaign with a close second behind 2013 The Goodwood winner Gregers in the Jeep 55 Second Challenge Heat (955m) at Moonee Valley on March 27 and she finished a game third behind Politeness in the Listed Bel Esprit Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield on April 18 before she was only narrowly denied a maiden win at Group 1 level by Miracles Of Life in the Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville on May 2.

Dabernig told Racing Ahead that Gregers had trained on strongly following the Robert Sangster Stakes and he is confident that she will be right in the mix again in The Goodwood this afternoon.

“I couldn’t be happier with her heading into the race and from barrier six she should receive a lovely run,” Dabernig said.

“I have a healthy respect for the opposition in this race, but she has performed at the track and distance and I think she is going to be right in it.

“It would be interesting to try and forecast what the winner may be, but I wouldn’t swap her for anything going into the race.”

Gregers was settled right on the speed when she was almost able to steal victory in the Robert Sangster Stakes and she has generally been ridden aggressively during her racing career to date.

Dabernig said that he is happy to leave the riding instructions up to jockey Craig Williams, but he believes that Gregers will be in the thick of The Goodwood action from the outset.

“I think that is her natural pattern,” Dabernig said.

“She is a horse that has had a wind op, so you don’t want to restrain her too much and you just let her run at a comfortable speed.

“Craig knows her well and I am very happy with her heading into Saturday.”

The Lindsay Park team after chasing their first victory in The Goodwood after finishing third with Dancer’s Choice in 1990 and missing the placings with their 13 other runners in the race.

Gregers is currently available at 2015 The Goodwood odds of $15 with Ladbrokes, while Black Heart Bart ($4.40) is now a narrow favourite from Hucklebuck ($4.50) and Lucky Hussler ($6).
