Craig Williams, along with Nash Rawillier, will appeal again against their riding suspensions

The 2011 Melbourne Cup dreams of both Nash Rawiller and Craig Williamsare alive.

Both hoops have lodged appeals to Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal hoping to obtain a stay of proceedings in order to ride in Tuesday’s $6m Cup.

The appeals will be heard on Monday.

VCAT is a tribunal which sits below the Magistrates Court in the court hierarchy but is higher than the Racing Appeals and Disciplinary Board (RAD).

Williams was given a 10 meeting careless riding suspension when causing interference on The Red Emperor in a stayers’ handicap at Bendigo on Wednesday and lost an appeal in front of the RAD board today.

If unsuccessful his suspension kicks in after Derby Day and ends at midnight on Tuesday, November 8.

Williams, is in line of become the first jockey to win a Caulfield Cup, Cox Plate and Melbourne Cup in the same year if successful on French stayer Dunaden.

Rawiller lost his RAD board appeal after Williams’ hearing.

He was fighting an eight meeting suspension for careless riding aboard Star Bender in a maiden at Bendigo also on Wednesday.

Rawiller is due to ride Unusual Suspect in the Cup.

His suspension also starts after Derby day and ends midnight November 5, thus ensuring (like Williams) he misses the rest of the Flemington Spring Carnival.

Williams will be replaced aboard Dunaden by French jockey Christophe Lemaire if unsuccessful.

Luke Nolen or Brad Rawiller, brother of Nash, are heading a replacement list for Unusual Suspect.

After I originally commented I seem to have clicked on the -Notify me when new comments are added- checkbox and now each time a comment is added I get four emails
with the same comment. Perhaps there is an easy method you can remove
me from that service? Thanks a lot!
