Jason Coyle’s two-year-old filly Lady Be Great has earned herself a trip to Queensland to take part in the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival thanks to a brilliant performance on debut at Warwick Farm yesterday.

The Charge Forward filly won her first race in stellar style, blitzing the field by three and a half lengths.

Lady Be Great also won her first barrier trial convincingly, assuring her trainer that she would be well suited to a winter campaign.

“There are some nice two-year-old fillies races up in Queensland so we might take her up there for one of them,” Coyle said.

“She’s faultless so far so there’s no reason not to.”

Coyle believes that Lady Be Great would be suited to all track conditions, after claiming her debut win on a slow rated track.

“Typically in Queensland during the winter they can get a shower and she has shown she is adept in the going,” he said.

“But we’ll take her home first and make sure she pulls up well.”

The decision to take Lady Be Great to Queensland was made after the two-year-old outdid everybody’s expectations after claiming victory over 1,100 metres from barrier 13.

“Coming into the race we were expecting her to run well but we thought a top five finish would be good from that wide barrier,” Coyle said.

“She might be a bit better than what we thought.”

The two-year-old races that will feature in the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival are the Group 2 Champagne Classic on May 21, the Group 2 Sires’ Produce Stakes on June 4, and the Group 1 The TJ Smith on June 11.
