Leading Sydney trainer Chris Waller could have as many as four horses in the Cox Plate field and all four will gallop at Moonee Valley tomorrow morning; with He’s Your Man and Foreteller both needing to impress to earn a start in the Australasian Weight-For-Age Championship.
The Group 1 Mackinnon Stakes (2000m) was set to be the next race start for Epsom Handicap winner He’s Your Man, but Waller is now considering running the imported galloper in the Cox Plate, while Foreteller remains a 50/50 chance of running in the race that he finished a fast-finishing fourth in last year.
Sacred Falls and Royal Descent are both guaranteed to run in the Cox Plate and the duo will have a look at the tight-turning Moonee Valley circuit tomorrow.
Gai Waterhouse is still chasing a maiden win in the Cox Plate and she is hoping to have both Almalad and Wandjina in the 2014 edition of the race.
Almalad’s wins in the Group 1 J.J. Atkins (1600m) and Group 2 Stutt Stakes (1600m) will assure him of a start in the Cox Plate, while the Moonee Valley Racing Club Committee are leading towards granting Wandjina a place in the Cox Plate field after he finished third behind Shooting To Win and Rich Enuff in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) on October 11.
Sweynesse is another three-year-old that is likely to be included in the Cox Plate acceptances and the Godolphin colt will get his first look at Moonee Valley during Breakfast With The Best tomorrow.
The Lonhro colt recorded four wins from his first four race starts, but he suffered a maiden defeat when he finished third behind Hampton Court and First Seal in the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) at Royal Randwick on October 11.
Talented mare Silent Achiever is set to be the first horse on the track at Moonee Valley tomorrow and she will be having her first look at the track since she upset Rangirangdoo to take out the 2012 edition of the Group 2 Crystal Mile (1600m).
Silent Achiever has failed to fire in her three race starts during her 2014 Spring Racing Carnival campaign to date, but she has impressive trainer Roger James with her trackwork since finishing ninth in the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m) at Flemington on October 4.
The Cox Plate odds of Criterion have shortened dramatically since he finished second behind Fawkner in the Group 1 Caulfield Stakes (2000m) and he will have his first opportunity to gallop at Moonee Valley tomorrow.
Imported galloper Crackerjack King was set to gallop at Breakfast With The Best tomorrow in an attempt to convince the Moonee Valley Racing Club committee that he was worth of a start in the Cox Plate, but he has suffered a suspensory ligament injury and is no chance of running this weekend.
Fawkner ($4) remains favourite in the 2014 Cox Plate betting market from Adelaide ($5.50), Sacred Falls ($6) and Criterion ($8).
