Cox Plate Betting Drift For Fiorente

Fiorente has been the major drifter in 2013 Cox Plate betting markets overnight; with the imported stayer now out to odds of $4.60.

Fiorente will be returning to Moonee Valley for the first time since his win in the Dato' Tan Chin Nam Stakes.

Bookmakers were unable to split leading contenders It’s A Dundeel, Puissance De Lune and Fiorente after Atlantic Jewel was withdrawn from the Cox Plate due to a tendon injury and all three were available at odds of $4.20 when the market was reopened yesterday.

It’s A Dundeel has been the major market mover in Cox Plate betting markets in the last twelve hours and is into odds of $4 while there has also been a push for Puissance De Lune ($4.40) despite the fact that he will be withoout regular jockey Glen Boss for the first time in seven race starts.

Leading Sydney Gai Waterhouse is yet to taste victory in the Cox Plate but has gone close on a number of occasions; with Lotteria (2005) and Manhattan Rain (2009) finishing second while the well-backed All Our Mob (1996) and Pierro (2012) were both able to round out the placings.

Waterhouse told Thorough Media that she is delighted with Fiorente and remains confident that he can defy the Cox Plate betting drift to give her a maiden victory in the Australasian Weight-For-Age Championship.

“Every time that I run a horse in it, they run pretty well,” Waterhouse said.

“We haven’t won it but we have run a few placings with some very good horses.

“Only good horses run in this race and only good horses win it.

“Fiorente is great and it is a race that should suit him right down to the ground.”

Fiorente recorded his first ever win in Australia with his victory in the Group 2 Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley on September 14 and Waterhouse said that she does not think the Monsun entire needs another look at the tight-turning track before the Cox Plate on Saturday.

“He worked at Flemington this morning,” Waterhouse said.

“I chose not to bring him over thinking that he might just waste himself coming on the float and one thing and another.

“I thought there might have been a lot of hype here this morning but it is quiet delightful really.”

There have been no other major Cox Plate betting movements although there has been a sprinkling of support for Happy Trails ($14) and Green Moon ($17), while European-trained gallopers Side Glance ($61) and Mull Of Killough ($61) still remain friendless in betting, despite trainer Jane Chapple-Hyam claiming that they were being underrated by bookmakers.

Other drifters include Chris Waller-trained Foreteller ($31), who was a late inclusion to the field, and Rekindled Interest ($34) who is having his third crack at the Cox Plate.
