Yosei could be a contender for the 2011 Cox Plate

Along with Michelle Payne nobody was more pleased to see Yosei storm home for victory in the Tattersall’s Tiara than trainer Stewart Webb.

She’s a horse that’s really put him on the map in the last 12 months and her win did as much for her career as it probably has for him.

He now has a huge opportunity to take this mare into the spring and be a real dominate force in some of Australia’s biggest races.

The stable itself isn’t too sure at this stage just how good she can be so there are no solid plans locked in for Sydney or Melbourne.

She’s currently spelling and in that time they’ll discuss with connections about just how high the aim in the spring carnival.

All options are still on the stable and that includes the Cox Plate.

” The Cox Plate is for your out and out champion and she’s a champion three year old filly,” Webb said.

” You’ll definitely be nominating for the Cox Plate but a more realistic goal would probably be the Myer classic.”

Plenty of trainers have said similar things in the past only to have the lure of prize money and glory prove too strong, so it’s still very much up in the air at this stage.

Something which would certainly be playing on his mind is the fact she’s such a big race performer.

Her career record and runs in lower grades are average at bets, but Webb knows she’d step up to the plate were she given a shot in such a big event.

That was on show at Eagle Farm last weekend, the return of jockey Michelle Payne something that cannot be overlooked.

“The horse definitely runs for her and the horse was definitely on its way up by the time it got to the races on Saturday,” Webb said.

He admits that like many he had a big question mark on her going into the home turn as she sat at the back with a lot of ground to make up.

“To the horses credit even in the 1000 Guineas Michelle was very happy to be there,” he said.

“She’s got a very good turn of foot.

“Having said that I still wanted to be one or maybe even two spots closer.”

Either way she got the job done and she’s now surely overcome any doubts people continued to have of her.

They’re doubts Webb has never had and he’s delighted with what’s happened and what is set to come in the future.

“She’s a very good once in a lifetime filly,” he said.
