Peter Snowden is undoubtedly the king of the two year olds this season but late in the piece country trainer Jenny Graham is marking her mark with a couple of handy runners.

Both Alcancia and Leviosa have won feature races during country carnivals this year and their development strongly points to a city start.

That start could come as early as this weekend for Alcancia which is nominated for the Rosebud qualifier at Warwick Farm this Saturday.

She’s no sure runner though as she enters a race against time to fully recover from a leg complaint.

The Scone Cup was where she really announced her presence, her win in the Inglis Challenge surprising a few people.

Bought for just $6,500 as a yearling she was on track to big result this weekend but her trouble free three week break came to an end after she took a shot to her leg.

“I’ve got her leg wrapped up at the moment … she’s knocked it playing around in her box,” Graham said.

“At this stage she’s borderline (to race on Saturday) but if everything goes to plan I’m hopeful she will be there.”

Graham maintains she always thought Alcancia was a good horse, but she didn’t know she was quite as good as she is.

“I wasn’t surprised she won at Scone but I suppose she caught me a bit off guard with the way she accelerated to win,” Graham said.

Veteran jockey Robert Thompson will stick on for the ride after he piloted her to her wins at both Grafton and Scone.

Leviosa’s time will also come soon, in fact she’ll get her chance at the very end of the season.

Only July 30th she will run at Rosehill in a $100,000 bonus race.

Her last start was at Grafton where she picked up her third win from three starts against a two year old field she made look inferior.

“All along I thought both horses were going as well as each other,” Graham said.

“Alcancia was set for Scone and we always had the Grafton race in mind for Leviosa.

“The better-class races in Sydney are obviously going to be harder for them but you don’t know if you don’t try.”

Alcancia will certainly have her work cut out for her if she runs with 15 horses accepting for the race.

Making her task even tougher is the fact she’ll start form gate 13 outside some very handy gallopers.

Among them is Gerald Ryan’s Schiffer, the horse which placed during the Gold Coast Magic Millions carnival.

She won at Randwick before coming home third to Karuta Queen on the Coast and she’s shown she hasn’t lost her touch with a recent barrier trial win at Hawkesbury.

She’ll carry the 58.5kg top weight in the race which also features the likes of Group runner Al’s Magic Miss and Helping Hand.
