Cosmic Endeavour’s Cockram Stakes Odds Shorten

Cosmic Endeavour has been backed into 2015 Cockram Stakes odds of $4.60 and trainer Gai Waterhouse believes that the talented mare will take a stack of beating in the Group 3 event at Caulfield tomorrow.

Cosmic Endeavour has not been seen at the races since she finished a credible fifth behind stablemate Amanpour in the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) at Royal Randwick on April 11, but she impressed onlookers with her performances in two barrier trials at Royal Randwick on July 31 and August 10.

Waterhouse told Racing Ahead that Cosmic Endeavour is very forward for the 2015 Cockram Stakes and she is thrilled with the condition of the Northern Meteor mare ahead of her return to racing.

“She is very forward,” Waterhouse said.

“I was in Melbourne the day that she got off the float at Flemington on Tuesday and you would not have known that she had a long trip down to Melbourne.

“She got off, she got straight out there and trotted around like she owned the place.

“She is going exceptionally well.

“I thought that she was thrown into the race and she is very well-weighted with 59.”

Cosmic Endeavour has shown a degree of tactical versatility during her racing career to date, but she was ridden right on the speed when she claimed her maiden win at Group 1 level in the Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) at Eagle Farm on June 21 last year and she led from start to finish to take out the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m) at Royal Randwick during the autumn.

Waterhouse said that she expects jockey Kerrin McEvoy to settle Cosmic Endeavour right on the speed in the early stages of the Cockram Stakes and the leading Sydney trainer does not expect any of the other horses in the field to be able to finish over the top of her talented mare.

“She likes to be on the speed,” Waterhouse said.

“She is a very good mare and she will take a stack of beating.

“She is a multiple Group 1 winning mare in a Group 3.”

First emergency Vezalay ($3.50) is currently available at 2015 Cockram Stakes odds of $3.50 and is a narrow favourite from Cosmic Endeavour ($4.60) and the resuming Girl Guide ($6).

There has been plenty of support for Griante ($15 into $8.50) and Scarlet Billows ($21), while Estonian Princess ($51 out to $41), Madam Gangster ($9.50 out to $12), Vibrant Rouge ($26 out to $31) and Soosa Rama ($16 out to $21) have all been on the drift.
