Cosmic Endeavour will make her Group 1 debut in the 2014 Tattersall’s Tiara in a fortnight after scoring a classy win in the Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes (1400m) at Eagle Farm this afternoon.

Cosmic Endeavour was settled just behind the speed in the early stages of the Dane Ripper Stakes, with stablemate Driefontein taking up the running, and was far too strong for the rest of the field when asked for an extra effort.

Berry steered Cosmic Endeavour to victory in the Group 2 Sapphire Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick on April 19 and the in-form hoop said that he was full of confidence heading into the Dane Ripper Stakes with the talented filly.

“I won a Group 2 on her just before I went to Hong Kong and she has continued to hold her form from winning at Scone,” Berry said.

“I was speaking to the strapper before the first and she said that she felt the best of all the horses heading into today and that gave me a lot of confidence.

“She is consistent, relaxed and I’ve won on her leading and I was three pairs back then.

“You can put her whenever you want in the race and she gives you her heart and soul everytime she goes around and that is all you can ask of her.”

Gai Waterhouse stable foreman Mark Newnham was thrilled with the performance of both Cosmic Endeavour and Driefontein and confirmed that both horses will run in the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara at Eagle Farm on June 21.

Newnham said that it takes a quality horse to beat Driefontein, who finished second, when she is given an easy time in front and revealed that the stable is eyeing races like the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) for Cosmic Endeavour during the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival.

“Cosmic Endeavour has shown right through the Sydney Carnival that she is going to make a top mare and she is producing now.

“When she gets good tracks, she just has that little bit better turn-of-foot; even though she has been able to win on soft ground, she is just a couple of lengths better on the better tracks.

“She could develop into a mare that could run in the better races like the Myer over the spring carnival and it is really good to have two mares going into a Group 1 race.

“She has probably been in work four or five months now, but she looked every bit as good today as she has the whole way through.”

Waterhouse is chasing her first win in the Tattersall’s Tiara after finishing second with Fashions Afield in the 2007 edition of the race.
