Coronation Shallan started her 2015 Spring Racing Carnival campaign with a fourth place finish behind Kaepernick (1200m) in the Quest Moonee Valley Handicap (1200m) on October 2 and she performed well in the Group 3 Moonga Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on October 17 before she led from start to finish in the Group 3 Tesio Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley on October 24.

Scott elected to give Coronation Shallan a maiden opportunity at Group 1 level in the Emirates Stakes at Flemington on Saturday and the Strategic mare battled home to finish seventh.

The Mornington-based trainer said that Coronation Shallan had pulled up well from the Emirates Stakes and he confirmed that he would give her one more race start this preparation.

“She seems really well,” Scott said.

“She has continued to eat and she has had a couple of days down at the beach.

“Everything is good, her legs are good and she seems bright.

“We are going to look to running her on Saturday.

“She was probably just a little bit outclassed on paper and the winner is a pretty good horse, so when he quickened on the corner they sort of dropped her a bit and she got off the bridle pretty quickly.

“It looked as though she would get run over by most of the field, but she really knuckled down halfway down the straight and stuck to her guns really good.”

Coronation Shallan was included in the nominations for both the Group 3 Sandown Stakes (1500m) and the Group 3 Summoned Stakes (1500m), but Scott revealed that she would take on the mares in the Summoned Stakes.

Scott believes that the six-year-old gets in well at the weights in the Summoned Stakes and he is confident that the mare will produce another consistent performance.

“We are going to go with the Summoned,” Scott said.

“It is a fairly compressed sorts of weights in that race, she gets in three kilos above the minimum, but she is badly weighted against the two horses above her.

“In saying that their record is up to 1400, while our mate is fit and well and the distance should really suit her.

“This is definitely her last run this prep and she will have three weeks off after this.”

The Summoned Stakes field has been released and Coronation Shallan will take on the likes of Solicit, Tycoon Tara, Scarlet Billows, She’s Clean, Minnie Downs and Precious Gem.
