The 2014 Coolmore Stud Stakes will be the new Spring Racing Carnival target for Law after he was ruled out of the Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes(1200m) due to an elevated temperature.

Law joined the Chris Waller stable at the end of his autumn campaign and the leading Sydney trainer attempted to teach the Denman colt to settle in the early stages of his races to help him run out the strong 1400 metres required in the Golden Rose Stakes.
The three-year-old relaxed well in the Group 3 San Domenico Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens on August 16 and worked home strongly to finish third, while he did not appear to handle the heavy track when he finished eighth in the Group 3 Run To The Rose (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens on August 30.
Despite the lackluster Run To The Rose performance, Law was still set to take his place in the 2014 Golden Rose Stakes field, but Waller told TVN this morning that the promising colt would not run in the race after being found with an elevated temperature.
“It is disappointing that he won’t be running in the Golden Rose but all is not lost,” Waller said.
“It is only a minor setback, nothing too serious so we will look to keep him in Sydney for the time being, have one run, before heading down to Melbourne for the Coolmore Stud Stakes.”
The withdrawal of Law means that Waller has now lost two of his leading chances in the Golden Rose Stakes after Brazen Beau was ruled out of contention last week.
Brazen Beau was following a similar path to the Golden Rose Stakes as last year’s winner Zoustar, but he was scratched from The Run To The Rose due to concerns about the rain-affected Rosehill Gardens track and he will instead run in the Group 2 Danehill Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on Saturday.
Sniper Fire will be charged with the job of delivering Waller his second straight win in the Golden Rose Stakes, but he will need to improve significantly on his first-up form after he finished at the tail of the field in The Run To The Rose.
No trainer has ever won the Golden Rose Stakes in back-to-back years, while Peter Snowden is the only trainer to have won the race on multiple occasions after taking out the event with Forensics (2008), Denman (2009) and Epaulette (2012).
