Coolmore Stud Stakes Spring Target for More Radiant

Promising filly More Radiant will be aimed at a sprinting campaign in the upcoming Spring Carnival with the Group 1 $500,000 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on November 1 one of her main targets.

Caulfield trainer Mick Price has a high opinion of the More Than Ready filly after showing him plenty of ability in a short Autumn campaign this year.

After beating Darley’s outstanding two year old Earthquake in an 800m Cranbourne barrier trial at the end of January, More Radiant debuted with a photo finish third to Bring Me The Maid and Husson Eagle in the Listed $120,000 Sports 1000 (1000m) at Flemington on March 1.

Price then turned his attention to Sydney to try and qualify her for the Group 1 $3.5m Tooheys New Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill but the filly could only manage to finish fourth, less than two lengths behind Earthquake in the Group 2 $300,000 Parramatta Leagues Club Reisling Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill on March 22.

More Radiant had shown Price enough in the Autumn for him to plan out a Spring Carnival against the three year olds over the sprint distances.

“I don’t think she’s a Thousand Guineas (1600m) filly so if I had an ambitious target with her it would be the Coolmore,” Price told Racing Victoria News.

“There are heaps of options for a filly like her.”

“She’s a Stakes placegetter so the main aim is to make her a Stakes winner.”

“I’ve got a pretty good opinion of her.”

More Radiant is currently in pre training at Vinery Stud and returns to Price’s Caulfield stables at the beginning of next week with her first Spring appearance likely to be in the Group 3 $150,000 Quezette Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield on August 16.

“She’ll probably race towards the end of August,” Price said. “I’m thinking she’ll be kept to the short-courses up to 1200m,” Price said.

Price has plenty of races that would be suitable for More Radiant in her lead up to the Coolmore Stud Stakes for the three year olds on the first day of the Melbourne Cup Carnival and a tentative program could be to run in the Group 2 $200,000 Danehill Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on September 13, the Group 3 $150,000 Champagne Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on September 26 and the $250,000 Blue Sapphire (1200m) at Caulfield on October 15.
