Omei Sword has only made five competitive appearances at the races since she debuted in early autumn last year, but her class has been stamped via two impressive wins and as many minors; highlighted by a second-place finish in the Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) last time out in September.

Confident that the horse will furnish into a Group 1 star throughout her career, Waller told Racing Ahead that Omei Sword will be targeted at an appearance amongst open fillies and mares’ company in the 2017 Coolmore Classic, when she returns in autumn.

“She’s a lovely, big and mature filly that we’ve obviously got huge expectations for after running second in the Golden Rose,” Waller said.

“Third-up into a race like the Coolmore against the older fillies and mares is the race that we’ve chosen at Group 1 level for her.

“She’ll resume in the Light Fingers in a few weeks’ time.”

Omei Sword delivered a smart field of fillies a comfortable defeat in the Peter Svendsen Maiden (1100m) upon debuting to racing as a two-year-old, before running a handy second behind Calliope in the Group 2 Magic Night Stakes (1200m).

Returned to the paddock after she failed to fire and ninth in the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) on Day 1 of The Championships, the daughter of High Chaparral resumed in spring for a dominant win in the Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m), in what was her only other start prior to the Golden Rose.

Omei Sword contested a Warwick Farm barrier trial over 805m on Tuesday morning and was not asked to do much by jockey Hugh Bowman; jogging to the line to finish five-and-a-half lengths off the pace of trial winner Honesty Prevails.
