Coolmore buys share in Rubick

A ten per cent share in Golden Slipper favourite Rubick has been purchased by Coolmore Stud in the countdown to today’s running of the Group 3 $150,000 Sportingbet Blue Diamond Prelude (C&G) (1100m) at Caulfield.

Rubick also heads the betting for the Group 1 $1m Sportingbet Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield in two weeks time and a win in the Group 1 one for the two year olds will justify their purchase.

Coolmore Australia’s Tom Magnier said the giant thoroughbred operation was looking to replace their great stallion Encosta De Lago when he retires in the up-coming years and his son was a logical choice.

“We’ve been looking for a son of Encosta de Lago, who is coming to the end of a great stud career, and we think we’ve found him in Rubick,” Magnier said in a statement.

“He’s a particularly good looking individual with unbelievable ability and a sensational stallion’s pedigree so he looks the real deal.”

Rosehill trainer Gerald Ryan didn’t hold back in saying that Rubick was the best youngster he had trained since the flying Snitzel after a seven and a quarter lengths barrier trial win before he even raced.

The Encosta De Lago colt then lived up to the pre-race hype with an effortless win over 1000m at Randwick on January 25 with bookmakers immediately installing the colt the favourite for both the Group 1 $3.5m Tooheys New Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill on April 5 and the Blue Diamond Stakes.
