The 2015 Golden Slipper form guide is currently being pored over by punters right around Australia as we edge closer to the running of the world’s richest two-year-old event at Rosehill Gardens this afternoon.

The Golden Slipper is always a tricky race to analyse from a betting perspective of our team of horse racing experts have complied all the information that you need to about every single runner in the Golden Slipper field.

1. Vancouver 

Vancouver has recorded three wins from as many race starts and is the horse to beat in the 2015 Golden Slipper. The Medaglia D’Oro made his racing debut with a win in the Listed Thoroughbred Breeders Plate (1000m) at Royal Randwick during the spring and he bounced back from an average barrier trial to take out the Listed Canonbury Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens on January 31 before stamping himself as a clear Golden Slipper favourite with a dominant win in the Group 2 Todman Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick on March 7. The wide draw is a concern, but Vancouver will still prove very tough to beat in the Golden Slipper.

2. Headwater

Headwater made his racing debut with a smart performance at Moonee Valley on December 27 and he went to the top of Golden Slipper betting markets when he proved far too strong for his rivals in the Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens on February 21, but he has been a big drifter in betting following his lackluster performance in the Todman Stakes. On his best form, Headwater is a genuine Golden Slipper chance, but it is tough to see him turning-the-tables on Vancouver this afternoon.

3. Furnaces

Furnaces was touted as a Golden Slipper contender when he won at Rosehill Gardens during the spring, but he was beaten as a short-priced favourite in the Lonhro Plate (1100m) at Royal Randwick on February 14 and he finished second behind Vancouver in the Group 2 Todman Stakes (1200m). The Exceed and Excel colt is set to get a dream run into the race from the inside gate and should be in the finish.

4. Haptic 

Haptic has flown under the radar heading into the Golden Slipper, but he has done nothing wrong in his two race start after winning at Royal Randwick on debut and upsetting Furnaces in the Lonhro Plate. Haptic is another horse that should get a lovely run into the race and he represents a touch of value at his current quote.

5. Exosphere

Exosphere is rated the main Godolphin chance in the Golden Slipper and he looks like the main danger to Vancouver. The Lonhro colt failed to fire in his racing debut, but he recorded a maiden race win at Kembla Grange on February 14 before he stamped himself as a genuine Golden Slipper contender when he took out the Group 2 Skyline Stakes (1200m) in impressive fashion. He will be hitting the line strongly and looks like a lock to finish in the placings.

6. Ready For Victory

Ready For Victory will be having just his second race start in the Golden Slipper after he made his racing debut with a fast-finishing win in the Listed Festival Stakes (1000m) at Flemington on March 7. This is a much tougher task for the Mick Price-trained galloper and no horse has ever won the Golden Slipper in their second race start.

7. Odyssey Moon

Odyssey Moon is one of the outsiders in the Golden Slipper field, but he does have the services of leading English hoop Ryan Moore. The Snitzel colt made his racing debut with a win in the Inglis Nursery and he has since performed fairly without winning in the Inglis Classic, Skyline Stakes and Group 2 Pago Pago Stakes (1200m). Moore is not a miracle worker and Odyssey Moon does not have the talent to win a Golden Slipper.

8. English 

English is another horse that is taking an undefeated record into the Golden Slipper after winning on debut at Kembla Grange and winning the Group 2 Reisling Stakes (1200m) last start. She did not run a great time to take out the Reisling Stakes, but she still looks to have improvement in front of her and could finish in the placings.

9. Reemah

Reemah is still a maiden, but she is still taking strong form into the Golden Slipper. The Redoute’s Choice filly made her racing debut with a lackluster effort in the Debutant Stakes and was beaten at Moonee Valley on February 6 before she almost scored a big upset win in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m). The form coming out of the Blue Diamond has not been strong and it is tough to see her replicating that effort in the Golden Slipper.

10. Speak Fondly

Speak Fondly was beaten as a favourite in both the Listed Gimcrack Stakes (1000m) at Royal Randwick on October 4 and the Group 2 Sweet Embrace Stakes (1200m) at Warwick Farm on February 28 before she earnt a start in the Golden Slipper when she took out the Group 2 Magic Night Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens last weekend. She does not have the quality to win the Golden Slipper, but she is a tough filly, who should be able to finish in the prizemoney.

11. Fireworks

Connections of Fireworks opted to pay the late entry fee of $150,000 to get her into the Golden Slipper field and they should get some return on their investment. The Snitzel filly had no luck in her first two race starts, but she stamped herself as a filly to watch when she took out the Listed Widden Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens on January 31 and was far from disgraced when third in the Reisling Stakes. She is another that represents a bit of value at her lengthy Golden Slipper odds.

12. Haybah 

Haybah has more experience than any other horse in the Golden Slipper field and is sure to get a dream run from an inside gate. She failed to fire on debut, but she performed well in two starts at Moonee Valley without winning before she took out a maiden at Ballarat. She continued her strong form with second place finishes in the Listed Blue Diamond Preview (1000m) and Group 3 Chairman’s Stakes (1000m) and she returned to winning form in the Cinderella Stakes (1050m) in Adelaide on February 28. She can’t win the Golden Slipper, but she should run well.

13. Ottoman

Ottoman was named Golden Slipper favourite when she stormed home from the tail of the field to win at Rosehill Gardens on debut, but she has been somewhat disappointing in two subsequent starts. She finished a flat fourth in the Silver Slipper Stakes and was credible in the Reisling, but would need to improve significantly to be a genuine winning chance in the Group 1 event this afternoon.

14. Lake Geneva

Lake Geneva is one of the most talented maidens in Australia and her Golden Slipper lead-up form has been excellent. The Fastnet Rock filly finished a most unlucky second behind Fireworks in the Widden Stakes and she hit the line strongly to finish third in the Blue Diamond Stakes. Team Hawkes have a very high opinion of the two-year-old and she can’t be ruled out of contention.

15. Single Gaze

Single Gaze has not produced a poor performance since she made her racing debut with a win at Rosehill Gardens on November 1 and connections opted to pay the late entry fee of $150,000 to get her into the field. The Not A Single Doubt filly finished in the placings in the Wyong Magic Millions, Magic Millions Classic and Black Opal Stakes, but she faces a far tougher challenge in the Golden Slipper.

16. Look To The Stars (Scratched) 

Look To The Star was scratched from the Golden Slipper yesterday due to a foot abscess.

17. Serenade

Serenade earnt a start in the Golden Slipper following the scratching of Look To The Stars, but it is tough to see her being competitive in this race. She finished thereabouts in the Inglis Classic and Magic Night Stakes and should get a nice run from barrier seven, but is not up for a race like the Golden Slipper.
