Punters rushed to throw money behind the spruik filly as pre-post Doncaster markets opened over the past few days but it wasn’t long before their hopes were squashed.

Brad Spicer from Spicer Thoroughbreds, who race the untapped three-year-old, broke the news on twitter.

“Disappointing news that Commanding Jewel will have minor surgery and will be missing from the Autumn carnival,” Spicer said.

The nature of the injury has not yet been revealed but Spicer said it is likely she will back in time for another tilt at Melbourne’s Spring Carnival.

A three-quarter sister to unbeaten mare Atlantic Jewel, the Leon Corstens-trained galloper was busy preparing for an autumn campaign that was to feature some big Group 1 targets.

The daughter of Commands burst on to the scene last spring, winning three of five starts and recording minor placings in her two other outings.

Being a close relation to Atlantic Jewel generated plenty of hype but she produced performances to match with the highlight a dominant three-length win in the Group 1 Thousand Guineas to round out her debut campaign.

She also finished second in the Group 3 Thousand Guineas Prelude and third in the Group 2 Edward Manifold Stakes.
