The Chris Waller trained Comin’ Through earned himself a start in the Doncaster Mile with a tough win in the Group 2 $200,000 Hyland Race Colours Ajax Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill today.

Waller will now give Comin’ Through a three weeks break before he lines up in the Group 1 $3m The Star Doncaster Mile (1600m) at Randwick on day one of The Championships on. April 7.

Comin’ Through went into today’s race without a run for four weeks after finishing a first up third to Endless Drama in the Group 2 $250,000 The Star Apollo Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on February 17 and Waller said the key to him is to keep him fresh.

Comin’ Through has only 51.5kg for the Doncaster Mile and Waller now rates him a good lightweight chance in the feature Randwick Mile.

“Well down right in the weights,” Waller said.

“He was placed in the Randwick Guineas as a three year old, a Group 1 horse. He has never been far away in some of the best races in town.”

“He is placed pretty well, he has the right credentials so I would be pretty bullish about his chances.”

“That is the reason we went four weeks from his first up run until today and then three weeks, just to keep him sharp.”

Waller is thinking he will give Comin’ Through another exhibition before the Doncaster Mile, similar to what he did with the four year old in the lead up to the Ajax Stakes.

“He went for an exhibition gallop last Saturday and it seems to have worked today so we will probably do something similar in two weeks time.”

Today’s win on Comin’ Through capped off a great week for jockey Michael Walker who won the Group 1 $1.5m Australian Cup (2000m) at Flemington last Saturday on the Lindsay Park trained Harlem and then backed up with another feature race win for the stable on Fanataic in the Group 2 $400,000 Adelaide Cup (3200m) at Morphettville on Monday.

Comin’ Trough was sent to the post in the Ajax Stakes as the $5 second pick and was able to hold off the challenge of his stablemate Tom Melbourne ($3.50 favourite) with Radipole ($8) finishing a close up third.

Comin’ Through is now rated a $17 chance for the Doncaster Mile at Ladbrokes.com.au.
