Collett to secure Spring mounts on Theo Marks Stakes fancy Kirramosa

Collett rode Kirramosa in the early part of her Spring campaign last year but after a win and and a placing from three rides, was replaced by Tommy Berry who went on to win the Group 2 $300,000 Wakeful Stakes (2000m) at Flemington on the first day of the Melbourne Cup Carnival.

Nash Rawiller then took over and Kirramosa then won the Group 1 $1m Crown Oaks (2500m) at Flemington five days later.

Collett has welcomed the call up and will be looking to secure the ride for the remainder of the Spring Carnival after replacing Tim Clark who rode the mare in her first up run when sixth to Sweet Idea in the Group 2 $175,000 McGrath Estate Agents Missile Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on August 9.

Clark will be aboard Cluster for Peter and Paul Snowden in the Theo Marks Stakes.

“If I was able to get a good ride I’d got to Melbourne for it and if she was to win or go very close and they offered me the ride I’d definitely be taking it,” Collett told the Sportsman.

Kirramosa is in line to head to Melbourne for the Group 1 $2.5m Crown Golden Ale Caulfield Cup (2400m) at Caulfield and the Group 1 $6m Emirates Melbourne Cup (3200m) at Flemington but trainer John Sargent has been very frustrated with Sydney’s wet weather.

The Randwick based Kiwi trainer has scratched Kirramosa twice since her first up sixth in the Missile Stakes because of the heavy tracks and is hoping that the rain stays away this weekend to give the Alamosa mare a chance to have a solid hit out on a good racing surface.

“She’s missed two runs which isn’t ideal but she seemed pretty fresh in her first run so maybe the timing between runs will probably help,” Collett said.

Kirramosa is on the third line of betting at $5.50 for the Theo Marks Stakes with Ladbrokes.com.au behind Cluster at $3.10 and the Chris Waller trained Bull Point at $3.20.
